Santoshi's Halla Bol based on Jessica Lal's murder?

Rajkumar Santoshi's forthcoming film Halla Bol is reportedly based on the murder of Jessica Lal. If sources are to be believed, the director has borrowed heavily from the 1999 sensational murder case. Halla Bol stars Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan as its leading actors.

The story of Halla Bol revolves around a small town boy who aspires to make it big in Bollywood. He realizes his dream very soon. In keeping with his status, he acquires a few vices as well along the way. But a conflict arises when a shocking murder at a party changes his life. The film centres around the conflict in the mind of the character played by Devgan and how he is helped by his wife (Vidya Balan) and mentor (Pankaj Kapur) to take a stand on the issue. Santoshi, however, insists that the film is based on an original story. He says that even though the murders are similar, his film is not based on the Jessica Lal case.
